COMMACK MIDDLE SCHOOL

CMS recognized eighth graders Ellie Y. and Sofia T. on Thursday morning for their commitment to community service.

Ellie and Sofia, members of Girl Scout Troop 1967, earned Silver Awards after dedicating more than 100 hours to their community service project.

Their project was entitled “The Bridge Between Us” and involved creating a bridge for Commack Girl Scouts to use during ceremonies.

The girls repurposed discarded decking materials and wood pallets to construct the project.

The bridge even features removable posts and lockable wheels so it can easily be transported to ceremonies.

They painted the bridge with colors symbolic of Girl Scout levels and inscribed positive messages with the aim of inspiring young leaders.
