Dr. Cox, AD Friel Speak at CMS
Superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox and athletic director Patrick Friel visited CMS on Tuesday morning to share important lessons with the school’s sports management students.
Dr. Cox underscored the importance of leadership. He gave the example of how he would say hello to fellow students during his school days. And, years after graduating, a classmate shared with him how meaningful it was that one of the top student-athletes at the school would acknowledge him in the hallways.
“The power of your words is immeasurable,” Dr. Cox told the students. “Just say, ‘Hello.’ That’s a leader.”
Friel spoke with the students about respect, and the importance of proudly representing the community.
“When you’re wearing a Commack jersey, you’re representing your family and this Commack community every day,” Friel said.
Friel explained how, with Dr. Cox’s support, the district has added sports including boys swimming, unified bowling and flag football in recent years.
Students also had the opportunity to ask questions.
This is the first school year that sports management is being offered as an enrichment course at CMS. The classes are taught by Jason Fluger and Donna Sita.
